Sunday July 17- a visit to the Visitor’s Center and Temple

Sunday was a great day! We went to church on the BYU campus. It is a lovely campus.

The flags represent the over 70 nationalities that attend there.
The mosaic depicts David O McKay- when he was at a flag raising at a local Laie elementary school. He was so impressed with seeing a melting pot of Polynesian and Asian. Holder. All working together. He envisioned then a school built of higher learning someday, where they would produce gold students whose influence would be felt for good towards the establishment of peace internationally. The mosaic was made in Italy and shipped here in 3 separate crates with no instructions. Adult Missionaries had been called to come to Laie for one year with their families to build the university. Pres. David O McKay was here to dedicate it, after having seen it in vision 35 years earlier. He dedicated it in 1955.

Then we had to go to work, so the family came over and visited us:

Then we took them on a tour of the temple grounds. We showed them the beautiful maternity statue. She is holding a shell which pours out knowledge and the gospel over her children. The 4 pools represent the continuing generations, which flow out ultimately to the ocean which represents eternity!

Later that day we went out to Laie point and watched the waves crash over the rocks. No beaches here, just pretty views. However, if you get too close to the edge those waves will come up and crash right on top of you…as Leese found out the hard way!

Then we drove to Sunset Beach to try and watch the sun set, but it was too overcast….just got some pinkish hues.
