We have made many trips to Pearl Harbor and seen the Arizona memorial many times, but have never gone over the see the Missouri docked right next to the Arizona memorial The Missouri was shot at, but never sunk. It was the site where they signed the proclamation to end WWII. We went to Pearl Harbor, but then you have to take a bus over to the Missouri. It is an impressive sight!

Across the gangplank onto the ship
We had an amazing tour guide, who was half Japanese and half American. He gave a very insightful tour. One of the neat points he emphasized, was this next story. A Japanese Kamikaze pilot had missed hitting the Missouri and crashed his plane very near the ship. The body of the pilot was found and the captain was very compassionate and gave him a burial at sea, just as he might any US soldier. They put his body into a burial shroud, draped it with the Japanese flag, and then saluted as they played Taps and committed his body to the sea.
The rest of the photos are taken as our tour made its way around the ship.
This is a photo taken of the actual signing of the declaration to end the war, with the Japanese officials and our General MacArthur.
Amazing kitchen facilities…
Don’t know if I could stand their sleeping quarters! I think it would be so claustrophobic! And theses are the NICER ones…probably for officers.
These were probably for the enlisted men…
They had a dentist office
And a post office…
A replica model of the Missouri
Now, these are the captain’s quarters, and I could probably stand to sleep here!
The actual declaration that was signed to end the war.
Sorry for the sunlight on the picture…makes it hard to read. And this is the large gold medallion place in the deck of the ship to commemorate the signing.
Now up to the bridge…
You can see the Arizona memorial from here.
It was a fun and interesting tour! We loved it!!!
